Robert Boyle Winters School

What a fascinating and lively event the Robert Boyle Winter School 2025 was!

On Saturday January 25th at the Royal Dublin Society Minerva Suite and thanks to sponsors Blackwater Distillery, Lismore Heritage Centre and South East Technological University, #RBWS2025 took place and was a resounding success!

A huge thank you to our outstanding speakers and presenters for sharing their expertise and sparking meaningful dialogue:

  • Prof Pat Guiry of University College Dublin and Royal Irish Academy honoured the late Prof Dervilla Donnelly with a talk about her life and works.
  • Prof Richard Roche of Maynooth University steered us through the historical pioneers of neuroscience mapping their contributions and paths of discovery over their lifetimes.
  • Neuroanatomist Prof Dara M Cannon, University of Galway presented fascinating insights on brain connections and functions, later joining Alejandro Lopez Valdes of Trinity College Dublin for an engaging panel discussion, chaired by Kevin O’Sullivan of The Irish Times.
  • Eoin Gill of Calmast STEM Engagement Centre highlighted Boyles experimental work on early iterations of neuroscience.
  • Closing remarks from SETU President Prof Veronica Campbell synopsised the proceedings.

Many thanks to all attendees for your interest and engagement in this very special event. The Brain: Past, Present and Future attracted a lot of interest for #RBWS2025 and we will revisit this theme for the Summer School June 05th – 8th 2025

We look forward to seeing you in Waterford City Waterford City & County Council and Lismore Lismore Heritage Centre for #RBSS2025.
