A fascinating insight into the world of gems and our infatuation with gemstones throughout the ages. We look at how the science of Gemmology eventually emerged as an offshoot to the already established science of Mineralogy. Through the science of gemmology find out how we can distinguish between gems of similar appearance and between natural, synthetics and fakes.
Discover how ‘Light’ is used as a means of gemstone identification. The optical properties of gemstones such as refraction and dispersion play a significant role in how they interact with light. You will also have the opportunity to test and examine some gem samples with the scientific equipment used by gemmologists to determine a gems authenticity.
We will also take a look at the history of Synthetic Gem Industry, and how it has advanced with the aid of modern technology. With increasing technology however what does the future hold for the Gem Industry?
