Engineer Your Future Programme 2026
Calmast hosted 15 TY students for a day on sustainable engineering for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) EYF programme. This is part of the STEPs Engineers Ireland Engineer Your Future programme.
The group visited the machine workshops and additive manufacturing facilities at SETU in Waterford with Dr Paul Quinn and also viewed the construction of the new Engineering Building. Students were then introduced to wind power with a workshop by lecturer Colm Tynan where they explored the engineering challenges and opportunities in wind energy.
The day wrapped up with a session on problem solving with Eoin Gill. Problem solving skills are essential for an engineering career and in the challenges that come up every day. A variety of puzzles ended the day on an engaging high note. It was an excellent opportunity to introduce TY students to the world of engineering in an engaging and inspiring way.
