Spraoi 2013 a huge success

Calmast, Maths Week Ireland and WIT were a major part of this year's Spraoi Festival and the young people's Spraoi- SprÓg. This year the festival successfully combined street performance, art and science and Calmast were proud to be central to this idea. It is vitally important that all groups co-operate together to make Waterford a City of Science and this year's Spraoi strived to make this happen.

Thousands flocked to the city to take in the sights and sounds of Spraoi and Calmast provided engagement and entertainment for all. There was a strong element of maths and maths puzzles, with the interactive binomial on display for all to use.

Engineering was present with an interactive display on the history of the Irish role in electromagnetism. Chemistry and physics were also on display- carbon dioxide glove experiments, Boyle's vacuum chamber and much more made an appearance.

The weekend wouldn't have been possible without the support of the Spraoi organisers as well as the volunteer staff and students from WIT. Thanks go out to Susan Gallagher, Michael McCarthy, Kieran Murphy, Eoin Roche, Paul O' Leary, Cian O Rahilly and Brendan Kennedy.
