Maths Eyes 2013 Award Ceremony held in Dublin.

Winners of the Maths Eyes competition run by Tallaght Institute of Technology are awarded by Minister Sean Sherlock and Pat McLoughlin.

The Maths Eyes competition, run by Tallaght Institute of Technology, is an initiative developed for the purpose of encouraging people to think about the maths that they engage with every day. Generally the only maths which is acknowledged as being maths is exiled to the classroom and lecture theatre. The mathematics which people engage with on a regular basis is considered to be so simple and the ease with which it can be done so universal that it does not demonstrate any mathematical aptitude, further reinforcing the idea that maths is only for maths people. Challenging this idea is key to breaking the fear of maths which is so ingrained in Ireland.

We at Calmast would like to congratulate all the winners and all those who took part. Photos from the event can be found here. Tallaght IT also have good reason to be proud of themselves; the initiative has proven hugely popular and engaging for its participants.
