Speaking at the launch WIT Engineering Lecturer Eoin Gill said

"It is a national priority to attract more young people to careers in engineering and with the present economic difficulties this is very important for the Southeast Region. To secure existing enterprise and attract new jobs a highly skilled local workforce is essential. The last few years have seen a great increase in the number of young people studying engineering at WIT.

Engineering Week events are designed to show the challenging and exciting areas in which engineers work but the main aim of Engineering Week is to help young people better understand today’s world. From the buildings they live in, the planes they fly in, the MP3 players, they use to the energy crises facing the planet, engineering is central to their lives. Engineering Week aims to raise awareness and understanding of engineering."
