WIT Engineering Secondary Schools Team Challenge 2020
WIT Engineering Secondary Schools Team Challenge 2020 – this year marks World Engineering Day for sustainable development.
Dates and Times:
Wednesday, 4th March
9:30 am – 3:15 pm
Venue:
Atrium, Cork Rd Campus WIT
Participants:
TY, Senior Cycle
Capacity:
8 teams of 4 students
This fast paced team Engineering Challenge will test the creativity and ingenuity of pupils to develop solutions to important problems in the developing world. Each School team (4 students) will be joined by an Engineering Student from WIT. Teams will first be briefed by WIT Lecturers and Judges on the challenge they must undertake and will then be given 3 hours to work together to come up with a solution to the challenge and prepare an 8 minute pitch (using power point slides). PC’s and Internet access will be available to the teams.
Each School wishing to take part should select one team of 4 students from transition year, 5th or 6th year. Students need not necessarily be studying an engineering subject, indeed a team with a spread of subjects such as Maths, Business, Finance, Science, Technology and Engineering etc. might work better.
Each team will present their final pitch to the judges on Wednesday afternoon and will be required to answer questions from the judges. The winning team will be presented with the WIT Schools Engineering Challenge Trophy and a prize. Parents, teachers and fellow students will be free to attend the presentations and award ceremony afterwards.

In Ireland, we are very lucky to have clean and safe drinking water. But not everyone in the World is so lucky: In the developing world, nearly 900 million people don’t have clean and safe drinking water and many die because of this. Engineers are working hard to find solutions to bring clean and safe drinking water to the developing world. In this interactive workshop, learn about the role of Engineers in providing safe clean drinking water, and become an Engineer for a morning in this exciting workshop.
