Awards for Calmast

The work of Calmast has been honoured with numerous awards. They include:


World Young Reader Award 2005

Awarded by WAN, the World Association of Newspapers, for Eureka the primary science magazine published by Irish national news paper, the Irish Independent. 

Gal Gréine Award for Education 2006

The Waterford Crystal annual Gal Gréine (Gal Gréine in the Irish language means banner of excellence) recognised outstanding achievement by groups or individuals in Sports, Social, Education and Cultural areas, on a local, regional or national basis.

Descartes Prize for Science Communication 2006

The Descartes Prizes are the EU’s top science prizes. Eoin Gill and Sheila Donegan were awarded the Decartes Prize for Science Communication through the Written Word for 2006, for Eureka the primary science magazine.

Engineers Ireland Science, Engineering and Technology Awareness Award 2007

Awarded by Ireland’s Institution of Engineers, This award recognises the outstanding contribution by an individual or organisation in raising public awareness of the importance of science, engineering and technology, and the promotion of careers in the sector. Sheila Donegan and Eoin Gill were honoured with the inaugural award in 2007.

Grand Jury Award for EU Life Science Communication 2010

Awarded at the 2Ways final in Brussels for best communication of an EU funded life sciences research. Calmast , CELS (Nottingham Trent University) and Genie (University of Leicester) were awarded the prize at a ceremony in the European Parliament for their “Evolution Game”

Spirit of Enterprise Michael Dee Award 2011

This award recognises groups or individuals who contribute to the social and or economic development of the Southeast Region.
